Top Leaders Join the First EVER Community Town Hall on the Prevention of Underage Drinking!

  • Locally;
    29% of Hilton High School students indicated they had at least 1 drink in the last 30 days.  – 2015 Youth Risk Behavior Survey
  • 58% of Hilton High School students indicated they tried their first alcoholic drink between 8 and 16 years’ old    –2015 Youth Risk Behavior Survey
  • 37.5% of local respondents surveyed indicated they knew someone who purchased, served or allowed someone under the age of 21 to drink/have alcohol– 2015-2016 Local 14468 Survey
  • 50% of Monroe County students responded to having one or more drinks in a lifetime compared to 60% of Hilton High School students.– 2015 Monroe County and Hilton District Youth Risk Behavior Survey

Lee Livermore, Public Educator from the Upstate New York Poison Center, did a wonderful job as Moderator. The event kicked off with opening remarks from Senator Joe Robach followed by a welcoming from Hilton School District Superintendent Casey Kosiorek.  Audience members then heard from our panel of experts on ways to address underage drinking in our community.

Peggy Duffy – Personal Testimony     STOP-DWI

Deputy Joseph Resch – Social Host Law    Monroe County Sheriff’s Office    Crime Prevention, C Zone

Nick Mieney,- Home and Automobile Liabilities with respect to underage drinking   Agent State Farm

Stephanie Rago, M.Ed, NCC – Parenting Tips        Substance Abuse Prevention, Greece CSD

Darlene Schmitt – College Age Drinking (under 21)    The College at Brockport

At one point, the audience split out for a brainstorming session led by volunteer Facilitators, the majority who were High School Students. There was quite a buzz during this time where many ideas were generated to help decrease underage drinking in the Hilton Parma Community.

We want to Thank everyone that attended the event and allowed us to use 2 hours of your time in the spirit of helping to make a safer place for kids under 21 around alcohol in our village and town.
